Sculptor spent 26,000 hours carving Netaji’s statue at ‘India Gate’, Central Govt

Chief sculptor Arun Yogiraj said, “The statue has been completely hand carved using traditional methods and modern tools

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Culture said on Wednesday that 26,000 hours have been spent by stone carver to carve a huge statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose out of a 280 metric ton piece of Muguni stone.

Netaji’s statue will be installed at India Gate in New Delhi.

According to the Ministry of Culture, a special truck with 100 feet length with 140 wheels was built to carry the piece of Muguni stone from Khammam in Telangana to New Delhi, 1,665 km away.

Today, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate ‘Kartavya Path’, a wide stretch of road from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, while also inaugurating a 28-feet tall statue of Bose at India Gate.

On Wednesday, the said statue of Netaji was installed in the ‘canopy’ of ‘India Gate’. The culture ministry said that the weight of the statue after carving is 65 metric tons.

Chief sculptor Arun Yogiraj said, “The statue has been completely hand carved using traditional methods and modern tools.

It is one of the tallest hand-carved structures in India.
