Bahanaga train accident: 7 railway employees suspended

Bahanaga/Balasore: 7 railway employees have been suspended in connection with Bahanaga train accident. Chief Public Relations Officer of South Eastern Railway, Aditya Choudhury, gave this information to the media. Among the suspended employees are three employees arrested by the CBI. The role of station master, traffic inspector and maintainer was also involved in this accident which happened on June 2. So the Railways has also suspended them.

CBI investigation into Bahanaga train accident continues. Meanwhile, the CBI on Tuesday remanded Senior Section Engineer Arun Mahant, Section Engineer Mohammad Amir Khan and Technician Papu Kumar. They were earlier remanded by the CBI for five days, which ended on Tuesday. It is worth noting that 293 people died and more than 1000 people were injured in the Bahanaga train tragedy.

The South Eastern Railway Safety Commissioner‘s report to the Railway Board after the Bahanaga train accident blamed human error, particularly signaling, technical error and staff negligence. A technical glitch affected the interlocking system while the signaling circuit was being replaced, which led to the crash of Coromandel Express, reported CRS.
