By the end of last August, there have been 226 suicide cases in the twin cities of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar.
Bhubaneswar: A lecture series on Suicide and Law Enforcement is being held at the Police Service Building. In this seminar, Professor Soumitra Pathare a prominent psychologist gave a lecture to the Commissionerate Police Officers and gave a well-informed opinion about suicide prevention in Odisha.
The suicide rate in Odisha is higher than the national average. What causes suicide, causes of suicide, diagnosis, investigation and media reporting on suicide are highlighted. Police DGP Sunil Bansal as the chief guest. Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi, Bhubaneswar DCP Prathik Singh Additional Police Commissioner Dr. Umakant Das and many other police officer was joined. The increasing number of suicide cases in and around the capital is creating a negative impression in the public mind.
For this, a workshop has been organized by the Commissionerate for experts working in the field of suicide and law enforcement. National suicide rate is 12 while Odisha’s rate is 12.5.
Odisha ranks second in youth suicide cases in the country. On the other hand, by the end of last August, there have been 226 suicide cases in the twin cities of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar. Among them are judges, actors, female musicians, housewives and students. A senior police officer said that there is a need for more awareness as the cases are increasing.
