Storms turn into ‘Mandous’ with heavy rainfall; The Meteorological Department has issued these warnings to the state
New Delhi: The heavy rainfall over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has further intensified and has resulted in the cyclone ‘Mandous’. That’s why the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coast this morning.
At 3.12 last night, the Indian Meteorological Department tweeted a ‘yellow message’ and wrote: Heavy rainfall over the southwest and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified and has become a marine cyclone ‘Mandous’. Hence, a cyclone warning has been issued for coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh.
According to the latest information regarding the position of the storm, ‘Mandous‘ over the southwest Bay of Bengal will move north-northwest at a speed of 8 km per hour for the last 3 hours and by 2.30 pm, it will be 360 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and Jaffna (Sri Lanka) 480 km over the southwest Bay of Bengal. Karaikal about 530 km east-southeast and about 620 km southeast of Chennai.
According to the latest information, Cyclone ‘Mandous’ will move west-northwestward and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with maximum speed of 65 to 75 kmph by midnight of December 9 with maximum speed of 85 kmph.
