Today is holy ‘Kartik Purnima’: Devotees float the boats since midnight
Bhubaneswar: Today is holy Kartik Purnima. Today is the lunar eclipse. Because of this, the devotees float the boat before 5:30 am. In most parts of the state, people have been seen sailing boats since midnight. There is even information that people get up from 2 am after taking bath and put the boat in front of the house, do all the formalities and sailing boats.
The devotees have floated the boat with the bandanas tied earlier as worship is prohibited in the morning. Devotees thronged the rivers, canals and ponds of different states from late night to early morning to catch the water. Gadgadiya Ghat in Cuttack, Bindusar Ghat in the capital and in various ghats of Kathajodi River witnessed huge crowds. Lakhs of devotees have been shocked by saying Aa Ka Ma Bai Pan Gua Thothi…
On the occasion of Kartik Purnima, the Chaturdhamurti is seen in the temple adorned with Rajarajeshwari or gold ornaments. The Lord is covered with gold ornaments. After opening the door of the shrine late at night, after the mangal alati, mailam, tadpalagi and abakash nitti, Sinhari Sevayat decorated the lord with gold. A heavy crowd of devotees was also observed in Puri.
