Nallathamby Kalaiselvi became the first woman head of India’s premier science institute

Nallathamby Kalaiselvi, known for his work in the field of lithium-ion batteries, is currently the Director of the CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute in Karikudi, Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi: Senior scientist Nallathamby Kalaiselvi has been appointed as the Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Saturday. There are 38 research institutes across the country under ‘CSIR’. Kalaiselvi is the first woman to head the institute.

He will hold this position for 2 years from the date of assumption of responsibility, the ‘Personnel Ministry’ issued in the order on Saturday. Along with the new charge, Kalaiselvi will also hold the charge of Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Nallathamby Kalaiselvi, known for his work in the field of lithium-ion batteries, is currently the Director of the CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute in Karikudi, Tamil Nadu. In February 2019, she was appointed as the first woman head of the Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CSIR).
