Prime Minister Modi’s birth city on UNESCO World Heritage Initial List

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s birth city of Gujarat’s historic Vadnagar, Modhera’s Sun Temple and Tripura’s rock-cut architecture have included three new cultural sites in India on the initial list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Archaeological Survey of India said on Tuesday.

UNESCO’s initial heritage list includes heritage sites that nations wish to notify. However, there is no guarantee that it will be included in the final list of UNESCO.

Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy thanks the ‘Archaeological Survey of India’.

Reddy said, Vadnagar Municipality is a multi-layered historical city. Its history dates back to the 8th century BC. A large number of historical buildings still exist in the city, especially of the religious and residential classes.

Including the above three places, there are 52 places in India with cultural diversity and natural beauty in the initial list of UNESCO. Last year too, India included 6 places in the said list. They are the Satpura Tiger Reserve, the famous historical city of Varanasi situated on the banks of the river, the Megalithic site of Here Bengal, the Maratha Military Sculptures of Maharashtra, the Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in the Narmada Valley at Jabalpur and the Temple Mall at Kanchipuram.
